KANNITHA LAY
Samba Instructor
Kannitha (Kann) fell in love with samba no pé as a vibrant, energetic dance style that celebrates both freedom and connection. Kann began her samba journey in 2021, training with various artists who helped her develop her foundation. Over time, her connection to samba deepened, particularly as she began to understand its rich history and cultural significance.
In 2024, Kann had the privilege of traveling to Brazil, where she trained intensively with renowned Brazilian artists and immersed herself in the heart of samba culture. She also had the honour of parading with two of Rio de Janeiro's most iconic dance schools: G.R.E.S. Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel and G.R.E.S. União da Ilha do Governador. These experiences were transformative, and she was deeply moved by the open and welcoming arms of the community, especially during the ensaios de rua - the street rehearsals that unite people through music, dance, and cultural pride.
As a samba no pé instructor, Kann brings a passion for sharing not just the dance steps but also the stories, emotions, and spirit that samba represents. She truly believes that dance is a universal movement that brings joy, whether you're stepping to the beat of a drum or simply letting the music guide you. Her personal motto is simple: if there’s music, we can dance.
